61st Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
Kladia Robertsdottir-Lewis, D8 UN Committee Chair
Zonta Club of Victoria

The NGO priority theme for the CSW61 Forum was: Women’s Economic Empowerment in the Changing World of Work. Representatives from Zonta International, along with members of other NGO’s, UN Member States representatives and UN staff of Entities met to agree upon the aforementioned priority theme and propose recommendations for further action.
Currently, on a global level, women only make 77 cents for every dollar a man makes. According to the 2016 International Labour Organization report it would take 70 years to close this gap. This is unacceptable to Zonta and many other groups, therefore a commitment was made last year to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which includes gender equality and empowerment for all women and girls.
