Nanaimo Club Happenings
 
Zonta Yellow Rose Day in Nanaimo,  Sarah Sorgiovanni, a student at Vancouver Island University, performed the songs she recorded for the Olympics in February:  This is the Time and Electric.
 
Sarah is with Corinne Stewart, Charter President of the Zonta Club of Nanaimo, at the club's celebration of International Womens Day and Zonta's Yellow Rose Day.

They are very busy celebrating at the Nanaimo club's Zonta Red Gala for womens heart health research in early February. Another successful venture.

 Oates is an international development specialist and human rights activist for Afghan women and girls with a focus on literacy and education.  Lauryn Oates cofounded Canadian Women for Women Afghanistan while in her teens; she is now a Phd candidate in language and literacy and will spend  time in 2010 in both Afghanistan and Uganda.

 Oates  will speak in Nanaimo for International Womens Day and Zonta Yellow Rose Day in March.

 
From our Citizenship Court ceremonies , two of them, on Wednesday, February 24th , in Nanaimo.  Yes, we had to take the photo of the new Canadian, the young lady from Russia; who still has her head in Russia but her heart in Canada...... they were from 29 different countries of origin.   Both occasions were so positive and full of energy; all ages, all sizes.   And we did serve Nanaimo bars with the coffee.   
 
The Zonta Club of Nanaimo has been volunteering for Citizenship and Immigration, for these occasions, for 14 years;  it is as rewarding for our members as it is for our new citizens.
