Sannee McFarlane Named Patron of Pearson College |
Zonta International's District 8 has supported Lester Pearson College of the Pacific , located at Pedder Bay, (Metchosin/Victoria area on Vancouver Island) since 1977; the Zonta endowment now is $350,000. with a goal of $500,000. There are currently 200 students at Pearson, ages 16 to 18; their last two years of high school. Males and females. No student pays for tuition at Pearson, one of 13 United World Colleges. The students this year are from 103 different countries. Applications for the college may be found on the website: www.pearsoncollege.ca; On November 12th, Sannee McFarlane, a long standing member of the Zonta Club of Victoria , was named Patron of Pearson College, by the Board of Trustees. Zonta members from both the Victoria and Nanaimo clubs were there to honour Sannee's prestigious appointment, as well as celebrate the memory of Audrey Tappin. Audrey, Sannee's sister, was a member of the Zonta Club of Victoria and left her estate to Pearson College; this was acknowledged in an appropriate event and reception at Pearson , also on the 12th of November. A California redwood was planted in Audrey's memory and a distinctive bronze plaque was placed at the tree site.
