Each year, Zonta celebrates the life of Zontian and famed aviator Amelia Earhart in January. While we celebrate the
Amelia Earhart Fellowship for the whole month, we chose 11 January as Amelia Earhart Day in recognition of the day Amelia began her solo trip from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Oakland, California. This flight made her the first person to fly to the United States mainland from Hawaii. Since she had flown over the Atlantic Ocean five years earlier, it also made her the first person to fly across both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.
If your club holds an event during the month to honor Amelia’s life and promote the Amelia Earhart Fellowship Fund, please
share your story and photos with us afterwards. If your club is looking for ideas for an Amelia Earhart Month celebration,

We appreciate your enthusiasm for awarding the Fellowship to amazing women who excel in aerospace-related sciences and engineering.
