 VICTORIA — University of Victoria weekend MBA student Corrine Thiessen is one of six women world-wide to win a Zonta International women in business scholarship.
 Thiessen first won the Zonta Club of Victoria $2,000 Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship, went on to secure the Zonta District 8 scholarship also worth US$2,000 and now has been awarded the US$8,000 Zonta International scholarship. “Zonta’s generous scholarship programs offer both tangible and intangible support for current students and future leaders,” said Thiessen. “I feel humbled and incredibly grateful to be recognized by and alongside so many inspiring women.
 “Organizations like Zonta are essential to advancing the status of women and shaping a better world for everyone,” she added. “It has been wonderful to connect with the members of my local chapter. Thiessen is the second Victoria woman to be awarded a Zonta international scholarship this year. Earlier, Aysha Emmerson, a 17-year-old graduate of St. Michaels University School, first won the Zonta Club of Victoria scholarship, went on to secure the Zonta District 8 scholarship and was awarded one of the 10 international scholarships.She was the only winner in Canada.
 Zonta Victoria President Barbie Zipp said “it is exciting that our little club, currently celebrating our 50th anniversary, has generated two international scholarships in the same year. It certainly speaks to the caliber of youth here in Victoria.”
 Zonta International is a leading global organization of professionals empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. It established the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship to encourage more women to pursue education and careers in business. Thiessen works for Imperial Oil in Calgary and is working towards an MBA at UVic.
